New year in Brazil 2019
New Year’s Eve , Vespera de Ano Novo is one of the most important festivities in the country. We eat a meal usually made of rice and lentils, to invite happiness and prosperity for the new year. In addition to the shows and fireworks available in many cities, the most famous party takes place on Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro, where thousands of people gather to celebrate the new year. We dress in white and make offerings to Iemanja, deity of the sea and protector of the fishermen with flowers and jewels that are thrown into the sea. In São Paulo the race of the Saint- Sylvester athletes from all over the world come to participate!
